Chapter 4 - Office Websites

Chapter 4 Topics

Designing a First Order Site

If you are going to do a site yourself, I feel that getting a site up and running, even if it isn't the greatest around, is a good beginning, and better than waiting until it is perfect. Practice first by exploring the arious free sites (AAOS, WebMD, Medscape) described earlier in this chapter. Be sure you have done your homework and thought of why you want a site and what you want it to do. If you are going to have an outside business host or design, this step is probably already decided when you finished Stage 1. As you examine the sites, note how the navigation (moving from one page to another) is done.

After you have a good idea of what you want and have sketched it out on paper (if you really want to waste a lot of time, skip this step), you are ready to go to work. You will need an HTML editor and an FTP utility (described earlier in this chapter).

Do you have a physician website? Let me know about it and it may help me to make this chapter better.

Also, please send your comments about this chapter of the Orthopedist's Guide to the Internet to David Nelson. Thank you.
