Part II:
Individual company sites
A. If you want to
get directly to a company's website, but don't know its web address ("URL"),
you can:
1. Try typing its name,
without spaces, into your browser's "location" field. Most browsers will
fill in the "www" and "com."
2. Search for it online,
using a search engine like Altavista,
Google, or Yahoo.
Use the search strategies suggested by the search engine. Also, see the
Internet
Tutorial on searching from the University of California, Berkeley.
However, recall from Chapter 3 Searching, didactic session and workshop, that the mainstream search engines
have their limitations.
3. Look for the company
in one of the specialized orthopedic sites, above. You will usually find a link to
the company's site.
B. If you do
know the company's URL, or have otherwise found your way to the company's website,
here are only a few of the useful features you might find there. Click on the

Company sites also offer press
releases, case histories, continuing education opportunities, specialized services for
your practice, internal communication for the salesforce, feedback forms, and more.
Why don't you tell your favorite companies what you'd like to see on their sites?
Congratulations! You've
learned how to make contact with orthopedic companies online. Remember that the Internet
is a tool for communication-- so express yourself too, by sending email feedback to the
companies who serve you.
